I stay with a business once I start making my resume short but powerful. I have been self employed since 2012 and employed by someone since 2005.


I am searching for a full time position that will help me support my family, as I am unable to on a self – employment position. Nor do I have the time I would like working inconsistent and sometimes very long hours.


I had to leave the veterinary technician field because I am no longer able to keep up with the physical demands of being on my feet all day. Though that left over knowledge can be very helpful in many other career fields.

Work Experience:

Pet Nurse on the Move                                                        

                  Title: Manager / Owner                                                Nov 2012 - Present

As the owner and manager many valuable skills were put to the test. I multi tasked with the best of them, one day could consist of answering phones, purchasing and dropping off products for an elderly client, and grooming one to two animals.

I learned how to invoice clients as well as scheduling for a single person compared to the multi people clinics I had experience with before. I also learned new ways on keeping clients happy and keeping them wanting to come back for more.

On the physical side I put my previous veterinary technician knowledge to good use. I performed many of the general procedures that could be done at home for elderly clients, giving injections including insulin and percortin. I helped administer and teach clients how to give subcutaneous fluids. I also applied topical medication as needed including eye drops and flea medication. Oral medication was given to cooperative as well as uncooperative pets.

Grooming such as shaves, baths, and brush outs. Nail trims are still a staple.

Wage (Average): Start: 8.50 an hour             Ended: 19.50 an hour                Full Time

Reason for leaving: I am unable to support myself and my family on a variable income and still have the time for my family as I would like.

As the receptionist I learned how many things I could multi task as one time. Multiple phone lines, file changes, payment plans and scheduling were done at the same time or near the same time with very few errors.

I learned how to have a working voice as well as a normal voice, happy light, and sweet have all described me by clients when we finally meet.  I learned how to keep myself busy, if there were no calls or appointments I would do menial tasks such as getting reminder cards ready to go out, or calling clients with reminders that their pets were due for a physical.

General veterinary assistant skills were learned here. Including holding an animal for blood draws, examinations, and procedures. I helped prepare the bloodwork for transportation and ordered items as needed to keep the business moving.

Reason for leaving: Dr. Murray has downsized within the last year and before that I was just someone on call not full time.

Alley Cat Small Animal Hospital (AHAA Accredited)        

        Title: Lead Receptionist & Lead Veterinary Assistant             October 2008 - October 2012

Working in this very fast paced multi doctor practice I learned many things, including how to differentiate between different doctors (One doctor would need 40 minutes with a certain client that the other doctor would only need 20.)

I worked the 4 line phone system including intercom by myself for days as needed, including during rush hour with very few hang ups. I learned how to work the Avimark system to it’s fullest ability, adding in forms, images, general papers and procedures that made it easier for the clinic to run smoothly and with less effort for the staff.  I was the ‘go to’ person when on the schedule if a co-worker had problems with the computer, or with a client I was called before the manager to try and sort it out.

I learned how to train, and train well. After less than a year working there I was given the task of training others. I helped with schedules for employee’s and was in process of learning how to do payroll. I learned ways to not only set up a business Facebook account but keep it running and up to date.

I also maintained inventory of not only back supplies but our purchasable inventory as well. I kept all the surgical packs, needed medical equipment and specific vials up to date and consistently in stock.

As the veterinary assistant I would preform minor procedures such as grooming, suture and drain removals, blood draws, preparing animals for surgery and taking x-rays. I developed x-rays including barium series. Once the clinic bought it’s own in house lab machine I ran 90% of the blood work as well as maintained the equipment with its daily, weekly, monthly and annual upkeep.

Reason for leaving: It became a very hostile work environment as the owner was thinking of selling the practice. AFTER I left the practice was sold and all but 1 of the staff was fired or left.
